Sarah founded Highbury Young Singers in 1996 with Scott Stroman. She studied Music at King’s College London, Accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and repetiteur work on the English National Opera short course. She is also a qualified music therapist and worked in this field for several years. Sarah has worked with children and young people throughout her career; directing Highbury Young Singers, teaching music and singing in schools to classes and larger groups and running holiday music and drama courses. She continues to perform and play, coaches opera singers, accompanies students at Islington Music Centre, Deansfield and Apollo Chamber Choirs and is Assistant Director of Eclectic Voices. She is also Vocal Director of Highbury Opera Theatre.
Helen grew up in East London, joining Highbury Young Singers as a founder member aged 7. She later won a music scholarship at Francis Holland School, Regent's Park, and went on to study Music at Cambridge, winning an Organ Scholarship to Peterhouse.
Helen recently completed an MA at the Royal Academy of Music studying Choral Conducting with Patrick Russill, graduating in July 2013 with the Alan Kirby Prize. During her time at RAM she participated in masterclasses with groups including the BBC Singers, London Oratory Choir and Royal Academy of Music Chamber Choir.
Helen is active as a freelance conductor, organist and accompanist in London. She is Director of Music at St Mary Merton, Musical Director of Buckland and Betchworth Choral Society, and General Manager of Highbury Opera Theatre. In 2014 she co-founded the Voices of London Festival, a week-long festival of choral music held at St James' Sussex Gardens.
