We run three youth choirs under the umbrella organisation of leading Highbury-based chamber choir Eclectic Voices : Highbury Young Singers, Highbury Junior Choir and Highbury Youth Choir.
All our choirs aim to foster a love of singing and making music together, alongside excellent choral training and offering high-quality performing experiences. Our members are drawn from across north London and from all backgrounds.
The subscription rate is £50 per term; sibling discounts and bursaries are available.
Our youngest singers start in HYS, where the emphasis is on having fun making music with friends. Members learn about how to use their voices, how to sit and stand well and work on lots of fun, catchy songs!
Entry to HYS is by very informal group audition, usually in the course of a weekly rehearsal. Singers can join from January of Year 1.
HJC is the intermediate choir, where part-singing and more complex musicianship is introduced. Members have a musicianship session after each warm up, and develop further skills in reading music and singing together.
HJC takes part in at least three major concerts each year, including collaborations with our adult chamber choir, Eclectic Voices, and at venues throughout London. They have also taken part in TV broadcasts and several recordings.
Entry to HJC is by a simple audition - we are looking for a good 'ear' and a love of singing and music.
HYC is our senior choir for young people aged 11-18. We explore a wide range of genres and styles and collaborate with other youth and adult choirs from across London, as well as regular concerts with our adult chamber choir, Eclectic Voices.
Members work on vocal technique, musicianship and sight-reading and perform in concerts across London. Recent projects include recording a TV theme tune, taking part in the Youth Chorus of Highbury Opera Theatre, and performing at the Voices of London Festival.
Entry to HYC is by a simple audition - we are looking for a good 'ear' and a love of singing and music.
Thursdays 5.15 - 6.30pm in term-time at Christ Church, Highbury.
